Why would anyone want to cross the Andes at over 20'000 ft on a motorglider ?

Because it is there :)

Yes, we want to cross the Andes on a motorglider, but we also want to achieve much more from our expedition.

Our plan is to execute incremental flights and returns, starting from the coast in Lima,  following the valley of Chilca and working our way up to the National Scenic Reserve of Nor Yauyos-Cochas, across Nevados from where we will eventually be able to safely glide to Jauja's airport on the other side of the Andes in the department of Junin - Peru.

A second objective of our expedition is to gather flight information helpful for the practice of free flight sports (Soaring, Paragliding, Hang Gliding) on the region. To achieve this we have equipped our ship with several video cameras and a pretty sophisticated array of electronic sensors to record relevant atmospheric conditions as we fly.

The final objective is to use computer algorithms to Geo-tag the recorded atmospheric information against 3D GPS tracks which then will be fed to a computer model to generate a digitally augmented cartographic record of our experiences.

We hope that this blog can be a channel to document the findings of our expeditions and a source of information to all free flight enthusiast interested in the area.

We welcome you to our space, and hope you enjoy our adventure.
